How to live in Hurghada if you are a tourist

Hurghada

If you’re a tourist in Hurghada and want to live there whether for a week or a few months it’s actually pretty easy and enjoyable because the city is designed for visitors but also has enough local life to keep things interesting. Here’s your full survival (and fun) guide

1 Accommodation

Resorts & Hotels – Hurghada has all-inclusive resorts right on the beach (Steigenberger, Sunrise, Jaz, Hilton, etc.). Great if you want everything taken care of.
Furnished Apartments – Much cheaper if you’re staying for weeks or months. Look in areas like Mamsha (Tourist Promenade), El Kawther, or Hadaba.
Tip: For long stays, renting monthly will save you a lot compared to daily hotel rates.

2 Getting Around

No metro or big bus system, but:
Uber / Careem – Available in some parts of Hurghada.
Taxis – Agree on the fare before you get in.
Microbuses – Very cheap, but basic and mostly for locals.
Bicycles or Scooters – You can rent these for more freedom.

3 Food & Drinks

Seafood – Fresh and cheap compared to Europe. Try El Mina, Star Fish, or The Heaven.
Egyptian Cuisine – Kushari (lentils, pasta, tomato sauce), falafel, foul (fava beans), molokhia, grilled meats.
Cafés & International Food – Plenty of Italian, Asian, and European restaurants, especially in Mamsha and Marina.
Tip: Drink bottled water, not tap water.

4 Things to Do

Beach & Water Sports – Snorkeling, scuba diving, kite surfing.
Island Trips – Giftun Island or Orange Bay for crystal-clear water.
Desert Adventures – Quad bike safari, camel rides, Bedouin dinners.
Shopping – El Dahar (local market), Sheraton Street (souvenirs), Senzo Mall (modern shops).

5 Weather

Winter: Warm (20–25°C) – perfect for outdoor activities.
Summer: Hot (up to 38°C), but sea breezes make it bearable.
Best time to stay: October to April.

6 Culture & Etiquette

Locals are used to tourists English is widely spoken.
Dress modestly in local neighborhoods (beachwear is fine at resorts).
Bargain politely in markets—it’s part of the culture.

7 Safety

Very safe in tourist areas; police presence is strong.
Watch your belongings in crowded markets.
Swim only in designated areas to avoid strong currents or coral injuries.
